Key Highlights of the Bakery Experience
Fancy Wheat Field Bakery distinguishes itself in the competitive San Francisco food landscape through several core commitments that resonate deeply with discerning patrons. These elements combine to create a unique and memorable destination:
Commitment to Grain Quality: The bakery places paramount importance on the sourcing and milling of its primary ingredient: wheat. They often feature heritage grains and work closely with suppliers who prioritize sustainable and responsible farming practices. This focus ensures a depth of flavor and nutritional integrity rarely found in mass-produced alternatives. The resulting textures and aromas are a direct reflection of this careful selection process.
Mastery of Fermentation: A cornerstone of their bread-making artistry is the meticulous management of natural leavening agents. Long, slow fermentation periods are employed to develop complex flavor profiles, improve digestibility, and achieve the signature crust and crumb structure that their customers adore. This dedication to traditional methods sets their sourdoughs and rustic loaves apart.
Artisanal Pastry Craftsmanship: Beyond bread, the pastry section showcases remarkable technical skill. From laminated doughs requiring precise temperature control to delicate fillings made from seasonal, high-quality produce, each item is crafted with an eye toward both aesthetic beauty and balanced taste. The pastries are designed to be light, flavorful, and never overly sweet, respecting the integrity of the core ingredients.
Community-Focused Atmosphere: Located centrally on San Bruno Avenue, the bakery serves as a genuine neighborhood hub. The atmosphere is intentionally warm and welcoming, encouraging patrons to linger, converse, and connect over shared appreciation for quality food. It embodies the spirit of a local gathering place where quality and friendliness go hand-in-hand.
These distinguishing features ensure that a visit to Fancy Wheat Field Bakery is not merely a transaction but an immersion into a world where baking is treated as a serious, yet joyful, craft. The consistency in quality across their diverse offerings speaks volumes about the expertise housed within their kitchen.

Bakery is good. Bad customer service. When I ordered my bakery, the lady got no patience. She sounded angry and mean. I like to buy bakery from this place especially the cake. I knew how busy it can get. I was there during even busier time. … More

It's a franchise local chinese bakery, A bit pricey, but gained popularity from locals. Conveniently located near bus stops. Clean store. Unfortunately, there's a language barrier between server and customers who don't speak Chinese. So they appear to be a bit rude.

This San Francisco bakery has my heart – and my taste buds! The array of both sweet and savory pastries is a continuous delight, and they're always coming out fresh.
If you have a thing for red bean fillings like I do, you're in for a treat – just be warned, they fly off the shelves like hotcakes (or, in this case, hot pastries).
The place might be small, but the flavors are anything but. It's a cozy little spot that's definitely worth a stop. I left with a full bag of goodies – couldn't resist. 😅 If you're swinging by, bring your self-control game because, trust me, it'll be put to the test. Happy indulging! 🥐🍩

Very average Chinese American bakery. Nothing I tried was very good. Everything was very bready with too little filling. The BBQ pork buns were especially gloopy and meh. Not sure why this place has such good reviews.

Time and time again, the store employees at this location have been rude to me and my family. They hold no regard nor respect for their customers as they are impolite, impatient and arrogant. My mother has a “VIP” card for this chain (pictured) that is supposed to give a discount on purchases, which is stated directly on the back of the card. Three times now, my mother has not been given the discount even though my mother has held up the card in view of the employees who have said they “didn’t see the card and can’t do anything now that they have rung up the bill.” I have seen my mother hold up the card within 1 ft of their faces each time this has happened. It is not a matter of me wanting a few cents back from the store but the lack of accountability and understanding that these employees have. On a note about the atmosphere, the format of the store now with the desk 2 ft from the door where you put in your order rather than the walkable aisles displaying the different buns makes the store a lot less appealing and defeats the whole image of the store being a fun, little bakery. If you’d like to try some buns from this chain, I highly recommend another location; don’t come to this one.

I was really disappointed with the durian birthday cake this time. The cake was very stingy with the durian — there was barely any durian flavor compared to the last one I bought. It used to be rich and creamy, but now it tastes plain and not worth the price. The price is still expensive, but the quality has clearly gone down. I hope the bakery improves and adds more real durian again like before.

this bakery.
I pre-ordered and paid in advance for 20 breads, planning to pick them up around 3:30 PM. When I arrived, I politely mentioned that the breads were for different friends and needed to be individually packaged. However, the staff didn’t inform me that this couldn’t be done when I placed the order — they only told me after I came to pick up.
When I asked for bags, another staff member mistakenly told others that I hadn’t paid, and they refused to give me any bags unless I paid extra. Since I didn’t have cash and they didn’t allow card payment for the bag, I said I’d just take the breads as is. Then, one of the staff rudely dumped all my breads onto a tray, and my pork floss rolls fell apart on the table.
Instead of trying to help, the staff spoke impatiently and even said, “You should’ve told us earlier if you wanted individual packaging,” in front of everyone. Several of them even stood together discussing and arguing about my order right there in the store. It was embarrassing and completely unprofessional.
As a paying customer who prepaid and made a clear request, I expected basic respect and courtesy. This level of rudeness and lack of service is unacceptable. I will not come back, and I hope the management takes this feedback seriously

I'm not really sure what the hype is about this one. The price is good and the pastries were okay but it just doesn't compete with some of the other bakeries.
It looks like they went with the covid restrictions and just stuck with them since it is only pickup now and the area to order is really tiny. There isn't a spot to see the menu from the outside so we had to look at the menu from the tiny pickup area inside and had to step away any time another customer came in to order since we were in the way when we were deciding.
Most of the options were bread or cakes so we just went with a sweet roll and a egg tart. While they were cheaper than some of the other bakeries, there really wasn't much to them and they didn't seem worth the price. The roll was just a semi sweet bread and the egg tart was an odd mix of sweet and savory.
The staff wasn't unfriendly but wasn't friendly either and the layout made it hard to ask questions.
Maybe it was just what we got but I left hoping for more.

You lost 2 stars for really not catering properly to your customers. The baked goods are very good. The taro bun options included some i have never seen before. It is hard to choose what you want to buy when your basically standing 2 feet in the door and all the items are not in full view. Also when the customer behind you is breathing down your neck it just feels so rushed that i didnt get to buy everything that i would have bought. It is time to go back to normal and serve your customers properly. But i really doubt the owners care about the customers.
